Tote Bags In the sewing course children are taught practical skills. They are taught to create a number of multi purpose items made from fabric scraps that they have at home. One of the first items they create is a tote bag. They will be using it to carry their projects to and from class.Why is it called a tote bag? This word tote means to carry around by hand. This tutorial teaches how to make 4 different carry by hand bags. A small one – a gift bag, a medium one – a clutch bag and a large one – a tote bag as well as a pocket bag. When learning how to create a tote bag the children begin to understand that a skill to create one product can be used to create another product. It opens a whole new world of creation for them. Materials required for this project - A box of cotton and poly cotton fabric scraps and some sheets and upcycled button down mens shirts .Poly-cotton or polyester sewing thread. Tools: A standard domestic straight stitch machine. or machines depending on the number of students.
