Painting a Fabric Landscape
Many students can envision a landscape in their mind's eye, others need inspiration either from nature or from a picture. Some can paint the landscape as they go and others need to refer to a planned sketch. One doesn't need any specialized fabrics to paint a landscape. There are treasures waiting in your scrap box. You will learn to create a “painting” and build an eye catching landscape scene using fabrics as your painting medium.
In this tutorial I will show how to use texture, color and size to create depth in your scene and which fabrics and notions to choose to achieve different results. This is a technique where you definitely don't have to color within the lines.
Fabric wall art using scraps is quick to do. You can achieve many different landscapes by adding yarn, lace, fringe, beads or buttons. The possibilities are endless.
You will also learn how to bind and prepare your quilted art work for hanging.
The instructions in this tutorial are for a finished piece of artwork measuring 30 x 35 cm. Once you have learned the technique you will be able to make it any size you would like to.
You don't need to buy any special tools for this, a regular domestic sewing machine will do the job. You can also reuse fabrics you have at home to recreate them into a beautiful piece of art.
