A poncho is a classic layering piece and has a functional purpose as well – to keep one warm. I decided on 4 different styles, one heavier blanket like poncho for the really cold days, and 3 made from t shirts that I have. The heavier blanket like poncho is made using a rag quilt technique and is heavy and warm The first t shirt poncho is a simple, one piece, elegant poncho which is a lightweight layering piece which can be worn all year round.  Over a tank top in summer, or over a t shirt or even over a button down shirt in spring and autumn and as an additional color layer in winter. The second t shirt poncho has sleeves and a cowl neck. The fabric can be used as a single layer or doubled for a warmer poncho. I show pictures without the added sleeves - you choose the look.And the third t shirt poncho is made by creating patchwork fabric from 2 – 3 t shirts and using the sleeves of one of them.
Construction Techniques You will learn to make 4 different types of ponchos using a sewing machine.
Tools:  Domestic sewing machine with zig zag stitch option or a Serger if you have one – Spools of polyester thread in a coordinating color - Fabric Scissors – Seam Ripper – Long thin sharp pins and magnet – Tailor's Chalk – Iron and Ironing Board
Size of Finished Product The technique can be used to make ponchos in any size as the base shirts are ones that fits you .Basic machine sewing skills required.
