A Wave Landscape Crossbody Bag

Creating quilts and bags is not just a hobby for me; it’s a passion that blends creativity and personal connection. I am still working on that Olive tree of Life quilt in my head and the best way to do that is when I am sitting at the sewing machine and creating.

A purple and blue wave landscape patchwork art piece

I owed someone a birthday present and she loves blues and bags. So that is what she is getting. I created a cross body bag with an adjustable strap and lots of pockets in a wave landscape patchwork design.

When I wondered what to give her for her birthday, I immediately thought about her love for blues and her impressive collection of bags. I wanted to create something unique and practical, something reflecting her style and my love for sewing.

Choosing the Right Fabrics

Selecting the right fabrics is one of the most exciting parts of the process. I turned to my blue fabric stash, balancing colors and patterns was a challenge as I only had a few pieces of some of the colors. I arranged and rearranged the fabrics countless times until I finally found a combination that created visual harmony. Using shades from navy to sky blue with some tie dyed purple added to the mix. I aimed to reflect the calming essence of the ocean at night

Designing a Wave Landscape Crossbody Bag

With my fabrics in hand, it was time for design. The bag had to be practical while showcasing the artistic wave landscape I envisioned. I decided on a wave landscape crossbody bag with an adjustable strap for added convenience.

To make the bag user-friendly, I included multiple pockets inside. I created a secure pocket for a phone, a spacious compartment for essentials, and smaller pockets for organization. I also created a matching, lined zippered pouch. One can never have too many of those.

Creating the Wave Landscape Patchwork

I created a 30 x 40 cm wave landscape patchwork piece for the front of the bag and cut blue pieces from a sheet that I had for the back piece, the lining pieces and the various pocket pieces.

The Joy of Sewing

Sewing is my happy place; it allows me to express my creativity while focusing deeply on the task. As I worked on this bag, I found that I could also think through ideas for my Olive Tree of Life quilt, letting my imagination stretch and work out design ideas in my head. I don't sew with music. Just me and my thoughs.

I truly believe that handmade gifts carry a unique essence of love and thought, making them more special than any store-bought item.
