My Nova Star Wave Landscape Patchwork Tutorial
My Nova Star Wave Landscape Patchwork Tutorial I created a smaller piece and took many pictures and videos so that I can write a pdf tutorial and create a video tutorial.
One HAS to be practiced in my basic wave landscape patchwork technique in order to accomplish this one.

Super Nova Star - Wave Landscape Patchwork Technique
Interestingly this is what happened this week
"Israeli scientists become first to chronicle earliest stages of supernova
Astronomers from Weizmann Institute observe a star in nearby galaxy Messier 101 explode and believe it left behind a new black hole
We're all Stardust"

Star Progress - Nova Star Wave Landscape Patchwork Technique
Well this time I thought that I had gone overboard with the technique.I almost decided not to complete it. BUT I do not give up, so I looked at it and looked again and came up with an interesting idea to complete it which I am working on now.

The Colors for my Wave Landscape Patchwork Nova Star Quilt
Now I have my fabrics in all the colors that I chose. I have put down on paper what I saw in my head. That accomplishes a number of things for me. I see a tangible color layout as I saw it in my head and while drawing the piece I get the "feel" of how the fabrics will flow along my drawn lines.

Designing the Star
Designing the star. Whenever I create a new design I sketch it first. Rough sketches, at first, as the ideas come to me. Sometimes as I awaken with my first cup of coffee. I have small piles of scrap paper and pencils always within reach. I never know when an idea will come to me. I have notebooks which I transfer the ideas to afterwards so that I have a record of my creative process.

The Making of a Star
And then I saw a Nova. A bright light shattering into many many colors, greens and turquoises and lilacs and purples. That is the one for the making of a star.

Southern Landscape
I ended up with a large pile of elements for my southern landscape piece. At this stage I would normally iron all the elements flat, but this time chose not to. I want the landscape to have a rugged, rough uneven look

Fabric Elements
I had said that I would create until either ideas or fabrics ran out. I don't know when that will happen. Scrap fabrics have a magical way of multiplying. It doesn't seem to matter how much fabric I use when sewing there is always an endless supply which seems to grow larger rather than smaller.

The Terrain
I wanted to create a rustic, bohemian piece of fabric with lots of texture.
I first created textured strips, and then I wove some pieces and sewed some pieces. A tactile and colorful quilted patchwork piece depicting the terrain down south in Israel.

Its Quilted
This time it was quite a challenge, some of the fabric pieces stretched a lot as I was curving the waves and I had to iron quite agressively to flatten the puckers but it was worth it as the end result is what I wanted and its quilted!

Today was a busy day
For this project, different from some of my others, the iron works over time. The ironing is the difference between a professional and an amateur looking piece. When I have to iron and use steam a lot I prefer to iron outside as there is fresh air and a breeze and its healthier.
I had hoped to finish it today but it started raining and it was too cold to continue working outside.
So tomorrow is another day.
