I had a huge bag of corduroy and heavy cotton pieces and remnants of fabric from pants and jeans that I had cut up with the original purpose of using them to create patchwork bags. I hadn't done anything with them for a long time so I was considering moving the fabrics on to someone else.

With a sparkle in her eye, she asked if I could create a sunrise strip rag bag using those vibrant sunrise fabric scraps. I loved the idea and told her that she would help me create it. This wasn’t just a gift; it was a chance for her to learn and engage in the creative process.

With my fabrics in hand, it was time for design. The bag had to be practical while showcasing the artistic wave landscape I envisioned. I decided on a wave landscape crossbody bag with an adjustable strap for added convenience.

Upcycled Fabrics - Endless Shades of Orange - Upcycling means transforming discarded materials into something beautiful and useful. This concept has always resonated with me, as it embodies creativity, sustainability, and resourcefulness. I am challenging myself to see how many different things I can create with the orange fabrics that I am finding.

Well I finally sat down and finished stitching the crumb quilted fabric pieces.

Zippered pouches are my go to gift. They are practical and pretty. I created a zippered crumb patchwork pouch to be gifted

I love working with flowers, I don't like wearing them as much, and I don't like appliquing them on bags that I use. I made an exception this time. I wanted a rustic bag for myself.

My birthday is in January and a little girl, the daughter of the neighbours has a birthday 2 days before me and she invited me to celebrate with her. I decided to create a floral patchwork bag for her. Something tranquil, a quiet safe place for these times.

Who says pouches that are practical can't be pretty. I have been working in these colors for the past month together with my students.

This is a study in colors for 2 boro rectangles for my zippered pouch.

I have worn these pants many times and they are ready for a new life. So its time from pants to a bag. I reconstructed them into a multi pocketed tote bag. I also wrote a tutorial for it.

I don't sew items for people, I also don't mend clothing. I teach. But I told her that I would sew a bag for her baby stroller and use the pictures to write another tutorial. I have to make samples when writing my tutorials. This was perfect. I love that I am making something and that it won't just be sitting in a box and that somebody will get good use out of it.

I was creating with carnival colors last week. A new fabric technique. This time it can used for art but lends itself to practical items as well. Boho pillows for home decor and also for usable items like a large boxy carnival boho tote bag which is always a practical piece.

I like to keep a supply of upcycled zippered pouches. I have a box with a number of them. they are my go to gift wrap, as a gift in themselves, a pouch to place jewelry in when I gift a button necklace,. a coin purse, and I also put herbal tea mixes in to gift when I go visiting friends and neighbours. As I said before, I am on a roll. All those ideas and techniques that I have in my head are being created and then put down on paper or rather on the computer screen. I am working on a number ofnew boho bag tutorials at the same time so my table is covered in colors.

Each one shares from their abundance or their skills. I have skills :) and upcycled fabrics. So yesterday I decided to recreate and turn some sheets into 2 practical tote bags. Most times I use scraps from the students fabric box and can create crumb fabrics. This time I remembered that I had a box of long thin summer colored fabric strips. So I decided to create striped colorful patchwork fabric, to create a bag for sharing

Holidays are coming up soon and its time to think of gift bags. I use zippered pouches for that they are very practical things.

Yesterday they finished their large quilted patchwork pouch for all of their sewing supplies. The purpose of this lesson is to teach them the first zipper technique in a list of 5 different zipper techniques that I teach in the sewing classes. They also get to practice lots of sewing while quilting the outside fabrics of the pouch.
