A Wave Sunrise Pattern

Updated: 4 days ago

Not long ago, I began developing a series of sunrise patterns. The spark came from my students' enthusiasm for fun and simple designs. They inspired me to create a set of three easy patterns they could use in their quilting projects.

.Being a creative, an artist, a quilter, a sewist, means there are hundreds of different ideas in one's head at the same time.

There was another that I had begun to work on. It wasn't clear, I found the fabrics and planned a layout but it was as though there was a fog laying over the design.

This was frustrating; I saw the end picture clearly in my mind's eye, but when I went to the "drawing board" clarity about creating my concept remained just out of reach. When an idea is clear to me, I go to the studio, choose the fabrics and begin to create moving seamlessly from one step to the next.

I could see the color choices very clearly

A Wave Sunrise Pattern

This time I want to create a wave sunrise pattern. Pieces of paper and measurements that anyone of any skill level will be able to use to create a beautiful wave landscape, and I wasn't seeing my way there.

A project that would guide both beginners and experienced quilters. Maybe I was over thinking it. I wanted the technique to be simple and the result stunning. I saw it! It was incredibly frustrating, I saw it but wasn't managing to put it down on paper.

A Shift in Perspective: The Olive Trees

During my struggle with the design, life intervened dramatically. Events unfolded that shifted my perspective and I had to create in a tense environment, I found solace in the resilience of olive trees. These ancient trees symbolize hope and beauty amid chaos.

For 12 straight days, I dedicated myself to what I called the "Olive Tree of Life."

Surrounded by unsettling sirens, these trees became my grounding force. The olive tree I crafted was not just artwork; it represented strength and tenacity in tough times.

The Dawn of a New Idea

The night after the sirens stopped, and we no longer had to be in a constant fight or flight mode I had a restorative night’s sleep,

I awoke with a vivid vision of my wave sunrise pattern. It felt like the fog had lifted, revealing a stunning landscape illuminated by the soft glow of dawn. The vibrant hues of orange, pink, and gold danced in my mind, sending me to my studio.
