Slow Stitching in Spring

The Four Seasons Slow Stitching Course is coming together beautifully, and I am excited to share my journey. With the winter samples and videos behind me, I am diving into the soft and refreshing colors that spring brings.

Slow stitching has become a meditative, tranquil practice for me, allowing me to experiment and create fabric art using only what I have on hand.

Unlike conventional embroidery, which can feel restrictive, my methods focus on using upcycled fabrics and threads. This approach keeps me on my toes, forcing me to be creative while also aligning with my goal of reusing and repurposing materials.

Embracing Upcycled Fabrics

Working with upcycled fabrics is both challenging and satisfying. Each piece has its own story, and I love the idea of giving new life to materials that might otherwise be tossed aside.

In my slow stitching, I find new ways to use the fabrics and threads and enjoy experimenting with techniques. I have been creating new fabric patches from scraps and then using them to create collages.. I chose a range of soft greens, pinks and oranges for the spring color pallette in my samples for the tutorials. In short I have been having fun.

I look at the scrap fabrics in a new way, they can also be used as threads to embellish - wait and see.

Techniques for Slow Stitching in Spring

I also enjoy hand-stitching techniques that add texture and intricate details to my pieces. Simple running stitches and decorative knots can transform a plain fabric collage into a stunning piece of art.

I am creating fabric collages which can be used as is to embellish a piece of clothing or on a bag, a pocket or a pouch and can also be used as a stand alone fabric art piece.

The flexibility of slow stitching, this time in spring, means there are no strict rules, only the freedom to create.

Documenting My Journey

I have found that my slow stitching course is more detailed than I had initially thought it would be, and I am happy to say that there will be a substantial number of techniques and videos in the course.

The Joy of Slow Stitching

One of the most rewarding aspects of slow stitching is the mindfulness it cultivates. Creating something by hand forces me to slow down and appreciate the journey. I am the kind of person who likes to see the result at the end of the day's work.

These slow stitching projects have taken me somewhere else. I don't listen to music when I create, I use the time to think and work my ideas out. Each stitch becomes a moment of focus and a connection with the materials and my ideas.

While working on the projects, I reflect on nature's beauty and the differences in the hues and shades of each season.

The vivid colors of blooming flowers in the hot summer, the gentle rustle of leaves in autumn , the cold, grey winds of winter and the soft fresh colors of spring, all these inspire my work.

My aim is to capture these elements in my fabric collages, creating pieces that reflect the spirit and colors of the season.

Each season offers a new canvas for different textures and techniques.and I look forward to adapting my techniques and materials for the different moods of each season.
