As the year shifted from 2023 to 2024, I had embarked on a creative journey that had been in my thoughts for ages: a four seasons slow stitch project. Inspired by the beauty of nature’s cycles, this idea was put on hold due to life's unexpected twists.
While sorting through my fabric stash last week, I rediscovered my neatly organized boxes filled with fabric curated for each season. It felt like I had uncovered a hidden treasure! It reignited my creative spark, prompting me to rethink my approach to the project.

I’ve long preferred fabric applique and collage art to traditional embroidery techniques. I wanted to find a way to incorporate fabric scraps, which I have an abundance of, rather than embroidery threads only, into my creative techniques. After much thought I have come up with an idea for a series of slow stitch tutorials celebrating each season: Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring. I will be starting with Summer this week!

Rediscovering My Fabrics
It was fun to open the Four Season boxes and rediscover the fabrics that I had put away last year. I had forgotten the vibrant yellows and greens of Summer, warm oranges and browns of Autumn, cool blues and whites of Winter, and soft pastels of Spring which flooded my mind with ideas.
Embracing Applique and Collage
For Summer, I envision bright sunflowers with golden petals, lush green leaves, and maybe even a fun beach scene with sandy stretches and surfboards, or a bright warm sunrise. The possibilities are endless! I plan to combine collage, applique and some embroidery to weave these elements into a bright Summer Slow Stitch Hand Sewing Pattern.
Slow Stitching the Four Seasons Tutorials
My goal is to create a series of PDF Tutorials and Instructional Videos that guide others through crafting their own four seasons slow stitching projects. Each tutorial will highlight the unique aspects of the season, offering step-by-step instructions and tips for fabric applique and collage techniques.
I want these tutorials accessible to all skill levels. Whether you’re an experienced stitcher or a newcomer, my hope is to spark your excitement for slow stitching and inspire you to create something beautiful.
Starting with Summer
This week marks the beginning of my Summer project. I have gathered my fabrics, sketched ideas, and am ready to start stitching!
I plan to document my progress and share updates along the way, hoping to inspire others to join me as I stitch. Whether you follow my tutorials or embark on your own slow stitch journey, I invite you to explore the delights of fabric art.
Stay tuned for updates on my Four Seasons Slow Stitch project!
