More of the creative process - quilting the wave landscape patchwork piece

My next class with the children is next week and they asked that I create a sample piece from the fabric scrap box as well.

In the summer sewing sessions I surprise the students. In addition to the basic sewing skills that are taught to new students in the summer,

I am finding myself in a bit of a creative slump. Its summer, its hot, and I am sad all the time.

I spent the last 2 weeks sorting fabrics to create art pieces for tutorials that I am working on.

Yesterday I had a one on one teaching session. My favorite type of class. She wants to learn ALL of my art quilt techniques.

All the quilts that I create have to be practical. That doesn't detract from the artistic quality of the pieces. When I say practical I mean easy to care for, easy to handle, and easy to store when they are not being displayed. .

I spent all day yesterday quilting the patchwork piece and I am very pleased with the way that it turned out.

I finished piecing the top yesterday. It is slow going because I am creating a video tutorial for it.

I spent a while pondering which colors to use for the petals of the wave flowers. These were my original color options.

My Nova Star Wave Landscape Patchwork Tutorial I created a smaller piece and took many pictures and videos so that I can write a pdf tutorial and create a video tutorial. One HAS to be practiced in my basic wave landscape patchwork technique in order to accomplish this one.

Nova Star - A Tribute to Those Souls Shining in their Stardust

It is fun to create art. It normally goes on the wall. I love it when art is used in a practical fashion. I shared bags that people created using the wave landscape patchwork technique and today I am going to share pillows.

Well this time I thought that I had gone overboard with the technique.I almost decided not to complete it. BUT I do not give up, so I looked at it and looked again and came up with an interesting idea to complete it which I am working on now.

Now I have my fabrics in all the colors that I chose. I have put down on paper what I saw in my head. That accomplishes a number of things for me. I see a tangible color layout as I saw it in my head and while drawing the piece I get the "feel" of how the fabrics will flow along my drawn lines.

Designing the star. Whenever I create a new design I sketch it first. Rough sketches, at first, as the ideas come to me. Sometimes as I awaken with my first cup of coffee. I have small piles of scrap paper and pencils always within reach. I never know when an idea will come to me. I have notebooks which I transfer the ideas to afterwards so that I have a record of my creative process.

And then I saw a Nova. A bright light shattering into many many colors, greens and turquoises and lilacs and purples. That is the one for the making of a star.

Beauty can be found in almost anything if one looks for the shimmers of beauty in the small things.
