Ideas
In the past few years when I create I go deep into the process much more so than I had done when younger. It might be something that comes with age or experience. I find myself needing to research techniques, colors and really getting deeply involved in the process, to the exclusion of all else. A deep sense of focus. I need to rest mentally for a day or 2 after that.
And now all of my ideas that I had before are back. Itching to go.

Birds of Paradise
I finally finished creating the piece. This has been floating around in my head for quite a while. First I dreamt it and then I drew it and then I sewed it and then quilted it. Birds of paradise.

Progress
So my creations are always works in progress and flexible. Every time this happens to me I remember a video that I have seen of an elderly Japanese gentlemen who lives on Okinawa and creates mind games. He discussed Altzheimer and said that if we keep our grey cells active and challenged we won't get Altzheimer.

I woke up with this
I woke up with this. I saw the picture and went to the box of crayons and took these out. As an artist or actually I think any kind of creator, you just know when you have got it right. First of all it feels right and you can "see" it.

Artist's Block
I have been having what I call Artist's block. You know like Writer's block. I see something in my mind's eye and I just don't manage to translate it into fabric.

Wave - Circle of Eternity
I have been working on more wave technique tutorials. I have 2 ready and there are 2 more in my arsenal. The next will be called The Wave Circle of Eternity.
My first version will be all oranges. I was sorting fabrics this morning and the sun was shining outside and birds were chirping, quite loudly in fact. I found some orange summer fabrics

Productivity
I always work on a number of projects at the same time. Mystyle of productivity. They are usually sized according to the remnants of the largest project that I am working on. This time I did something different. I am working on 3 separate large projects at the same time.
Every single table in my studio is covered with a different project. I can do it this week as the childrens classes are on vacation, so the studio is only mine for the week.

Any size waves - large or small
First I needed to work on the technique and create a version where it was easy to sew any size waves - large or small even a very large art quilt or even a bed quilt with the technique. I chose colors for that, laid them out in the order I wanted to sew them

My production line
I am working on another tutorial and auditioning fabrics for the sample.
I made a pact a few years ago not to ever buy fabric again. So when I am designing something I need to be creative. I first envision the design and then the colors. I allow myself to play with tones because I don't always find what I see in my head in the fabric boxes that I have. So flexibilty and creativity is what is called for.
I envisioned an ocean but not just blues, turquoise and greens also

Even the tiniest of pieces
When working on projects I keep all of the remnants. I store them according to size so that they are easily accessible for my various techniques and then I can use even the tinieset of pieces when I create.

Arty Bags and Clutches
It is fun to create art. It normally goes on the wall. I love it when art is given that added value factor by being incorporated into a useful item as well.
I am going to share a few arty bags and clutches created by people and incorporating the wave landscape patchwork technique into the bags and pouches.

Oregon Lighthouses Quilt - Joanne Self
I love when people share with us the products they create incorporating our techniques. Joanne Self participated in the Road To California Quilt Show January 2023 and created Oregon Lighthouses quilt and used amongst other techniques her modified version of our wave landscape patchwork technique for the ocean background in the quilt.

Wearables
I have been playing around with this idea for a while. To create wearables using my landscape patchwork techniques.
My process takes a while. I think about it, experiment in my head, look at fabrics and then begin to play.

Something Practical
I have many wave landscape patchwork pieces. Some are for the exhibition which I will be having with my students and many are samples for classes. Most of them I gift but sometimes I use the quilted patchwork fabric to create other products.
I had that large 4 season piece which I had not yet quilted and backed and I decided to make something practical, 2 zippered pouches out of it.
Zippered pouches are things that one can never have too many of. I find hundreds of use

Jungle Colors
I tell my students that the most important thing when choosing colors to my mind is not the color wheel, it is what they feel.
Text book jungle colors can be different shades of greens and browns. I went to a search engine and asked for jungle colors. I found certain palettes but I also found childrens books and there the colors were different, reds and yellows and many shades of greens and oranges as well.

Working with stretch
This week's experiment is a wave landscape patchwork piece with stretchy fabric. I am not normally working with stretch fabrics when creating wave landscape patchwork quilts, but the pieces are so beautiful so I will try. I have the perfect purple thread in my stash.

The flow of the seasons
t was interesting to work on it. It is not exactly a flow of a the 4 seasons piece. What I see is leaves and flowers through the 4 seasons.
